A new book called Hello in There Wee One has been launched in Dundee to help parents bond with their babies before birth. The book was unveiled at Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) and will be given to all expectant families in the city.
This project is a partnership between DCA, Dundee City Council, NHS Tayside, and the University of Dundee. The book uses illustrations, questions, and songs to encourage parents to think about their baby during pregnancy, helping them prepare for their new arrival and build stronger relationships.
Local families worked with Dundee artist Louise Kirby to design the book. They took part in creative sessions to share their ideas and make artwork inspired by nature and Dundee landmarks. Professionals from midwifery, mental health, and social work teams also gave advice to create the book’s content.
One parent who took part said, "I would have loved to get a book like this when I was pregnant, so I’m happy we could make this happen for other mums."
At the launch event, project partners and families came together to celebrate the book. Sean Nolan from NHS Tayside explained how the book was made, and Lesley Sharkey, Director of Midwifery, talked about how it will help families. Guests also got a first look at the book and joined in creative activities.
*Hello in There Wee One* will now be shared with all expectant families in Dundee.
