A £3 million investment has breathed new life into Dundee Technology Park, transforming one of its buildings into a modern, environmentally advanced office space and reigniting interest in the wider area.

Ruby House, formerly known as Tayforth House, has reopened following a top-to-bottom refurbishment that began in March 2024. While its distinctive outer shell remains, the building’s interior and surroundings have been completely overhauled in a project led by Ruby Capital. The goal was to create not just high-end office accommodation, but a catalyst for revitalising the park itself.

The result is one of the most energy-efficient office buildings in Scotland, with an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate. Featuring smart environmental controls, high-performance insulation, LED lighting, and state-of-the-art heating and cooling systems, the space is designed with sustainability and user comfort at its core. The developers are aiming for the building to achieve carbon-neutral status as it fills up with tenants.

Tony Banks, the entrepreneur behind Ruby Capital, said the investment was about more than just refurbishing a building - it was about supporting Dundee’s wider economic development. “This was a tired old building in an unfashionable development in Dundee, but we always believed it had real potential,” he said. “We wanted to create something that tenants would be proud of and that would bring new life to the area.”

Banks sees the upgraded facility as a step forward for professional services in Dundee, offering flexible, high-spec office spaces and attracting new business to the city. The redevelopment has already prompted further commercial interest in Dundee Technology Park.

Importantly, the majority of the refurbishment work was delivered by local firms. Contractors and consultants from across Tayside - including Wilson/Paul Architects, Griffen Design, and Green Palm Dundee Landscaping - played key roles in transforming the site. From structural engineers to landscape designers, the project has supported jobs and skills across the region.

The reopening of Ruby House signals a renewed chapter for Dundee Technology Park. What was once considered a forgotten corner of the city’s commercial estate is now being repositioned as a hub for ambitious businesses looking for quality, sustainable office space in Scotland.
