Dundee-born actor Brian Cox is set to release his directing debut Glenrothan on April 17, bringing together a cast with strong ties to Scottish theatre.

The new film stars Cox alongside Alan Cumming, with Shirley Henderson also featuring.

Both Cox and Cumming are alumni of Dundee Rep, with Cumming maintaining close links to the theatre and set to return later this year to perform in The High Life musical.

Glenrothan tells the story of Donal, who returns to Scotland after 35 years abroad in an attempt to make amends with his brother Sandy.

The homecoming forces both men to confront unresolved tensions, shared memories and the weight of the past they have carried for decades.

Marking Cox’s first outing as a director, the film brings together some of Scotland’s most recognisable screen and stage talent in a story rooted in family, reconciliation and identity.
