Torrential rain causes flooding and disruption across parts of Dundee

Torrential rain swept across Dundee on Tuesday, bringing localised flooding and disruption after a prolonged spell of dry weather.

Several areas of the city were affected as heavy downpours overwhelmed drains, with flooding reported in Lochee, the Hilltown and other locations as the rain continued throughout the afternoon and evening.

Videos and photographs shared by Dundee Culture followers highlighted the impact of the weather. One video showed floodwater reaching significant levels near The Range at Stack Leisure Park in Lochee, while another captured flooding around the Old Glamis Road roundabout, where surface water covered much of the carriageway.

The heavy rain also affected Dundee’s city centre, with flooding reported inside the Overgate shopping centre.

The disruption may impact some retail openings on Wednesday morning as businesses assess any damage and carry out clean-up operations.

The downpour followed an extended period of largely dry weather across Dundee, with the sudden volume of rainfall leading to rapid surface water flooding in several locations.

Drivers were urged to take extra care on affected roads, with standing water making conditions hazardous in places.
