The Dundee community is uniting in grief and solidarity following the tragic loss of Dr Fortune Gomo, who was murdered in a devastating incident on South Road on Saturday.
As the city comes to terms with this heartbreaking incident, locals have rallied together to support Dr Gomo’s loved ones by organising a special fundraising evening in her memory.
The event will take place on Sunday 13 July at Sandy’s Bar in Lochee, a well-known local venue that has opened its doors and hearts to the community during this difficult time.
The team at Sandy’s has been overwhelmed by the generosity of locals, who have already begun donating items, money, and support for the event.
Entry to the fundraiser will be £2 on the door, with all proceeds going straight into the donation box for Dr Gomo’s family.
The day will kick off from 12pm and promises a moving celebration of community spirit, featuring live music performances and raffles. Organisers are still reaching out for more local businesses to contribute prizes for the raffle, with all funds going towards supporting those affected by the tragedy.
Sandy’s Bar shared a heartfelt message on social media, writing:
“WOW! Dundee never fails! Everyone has been so generous already and still coming in! Thank you all so much for your donations and help.
For something like this to happen on our doorstep is just horrific! No one should be unsafe walking in broad daylight with their children.
Sandy’s would like to host a fundraising evening… to raise some funds for the family of Dr Gomo and we hope as a community you will join us so we can all rally round and pull together and show what Dundee is really made of.”
The outpouring of love and support reflects just how deeply Dr Gomo’s death has affected the people of Dundee. Many have expressed not only their sorrow but also a strong desire to stand together in defiance of violence and in tribute to a life cut far too short.
Anyone wishing to contribute can drop off donations at Sandy’s Bar, which is open daily from 11am, or contact the venue directly to arrange a collection.
The staff and regulars hope the event will show strength in community and help provide some comfort to Dr Gomo’s family during an unimaginably painful time.
In moments of loss, Dundee has once again shown its resilience, compassion, and unity. Sunday 13 July will be a day to remember Dr Fortune Gomo - not only in grief, but in love, music, and community strength.
