Succession star Brian Cox returning to Dundee Rep for special one-off event

One of Dundee’s most famous sons is heading home for a very special evening at the theatre where his remarkable acting career first began!
Hollywood actor and Succession star Brian Cox will return to Dundee Rep Theatre on Monday 9 November, joining fellow Dundonian and acclaimed screenwriter Neil Forsyth for a one-off evening of conversation, memories and stories from his extraordinary career.
The event will take place more than six decades after Cox first began his acting journey at Dundee Rep, with the evening raising funds for local children’s charity Dundee Bairns.
Audiences will have the opportunity to hear from the legendary actor as he reflects on his life, career and enduring connection to the city he has always proudly called home.
A special homecoming for Brian Cox
Born in Dundee in 1946, Brian Cox has become one of Scotland’s most internationally recognised actors, enjoying an extraordinary career across theatre, film and television.
From appearing in Hollywood blockbusters such as Braveheart to his award-winning portrayal of Logan Roy in HBO’s Succession, Cox has established himself as one of the most respected performers of his generation.
But despite his international success, his connection to Dundee has remained incredibly strong.
His career began at Dundee Rep more than 60 years ago, and in 2025, he became Patron of Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre.
That same year, he returned to the theatre’s stage for Make It Happen, continuing a remarkable relationship with the place where his journey into acting first began.
Now, he’s preparing to return once again for an evening celebrating his career and the city that helped shape it.
Joining forces with fellow Dundonian Neil Forsyth
Joining Cox on stage will be award-winning screenwriter and author Neil Forsyth, another Dundonian who has achieved considerable success in television.
Forsyth is the creator of acclaimed BBC dramas including Guilt and The Gold, and has received multiple BAFTA and Royal Television Society Awards.
The pair previously worked together on the Dundee-set BBC comedy Bob Servant, which starred Cox in the title role.
Their conversation at Dundee Rep will be accompanied by film clips, with audiences also getting the opportunity to ask questions during a special Q&A session.
Speaking ahead of the event, Cox said he was delighted to return to Dundee for such an important cause.
“I’m truly proud to be part of this event because of my strong connection to both Dundee, the city of my birth, and of course the Dundee Rep – working there when I was young inspired me and set me on my path.”
He added that his career had taken him around the world, but returning to Scotland always reminded him of the extraordinary talent that exists here.
Forsyth said he was looking forward to discussing Cox’s career, life and connection to Dundee, describing the evening as an opportunity to support a fantastic local charity.
Supporting Dundee Bairns
The special event is being presented by Dundee Bairns in partnership with Dundee Rep Theatre, with proceeds supporting the charity’s work helping children and families across the city.
Founded in 2016 to provide free meals for children during school holidays, Dundee Bairns has since expanded its services to support families struggling with the cost of everyday essentials.
The charity continues to play an important role in tackling child poverty and ensuring young people across Dundee have access to the support they need.
Both Cox and Forsyth have strong connections to the charity, with Forsyth serving as one of its patrons.
Their involvement will help raise awareness of Dundee Bairns’ work while bringing two of the city’s best-known creative talents together for a memorable evening.
