One of Dundee’s most fascinating historic landmarks is set to reopen its doors to the public once again this weekend.
Claypotts Castle will welcome visitors back from Sunday 24 May as part of a series of free open days taking place throughout the summer, offering people the rare opportunity to step inside what has often been described as Scotland’s quirkiest castle.
The striking 16th century castle, located in Broughty Ferry, is known for its unusual design, distinctive twin tower layout and centuries of history.
Although many people in Dundee will recognise the exterior of the castle, opportunities to explore inside the historic building are limited, making the open days especially popular with history lovers, families and curious visitors alike.
The castle will be open from 10am until 4.30pm, with last entry at 4pm, on selected dates across the summer months.
The confirmed open days are:
Sunday 24 May
Sunday 28 June
Friday 24 July
Friday 21 August
Sunday 27 September
Entry is completely free of charge.
Claypotts Castle is regarded as one of the best preserved examples of a late medieval Scottish tower house and remains one of Dundee’s hidden gems, sitting tucked away amongst modern housing while preserving a remarkable link to the city’s past.
The reopening gives both locals and visitors the chance to experience a piece of Dundee history up close and explore one of the city’s most unique historic buildings.
