Golf could soon make a return to one of Dundee’s most well-known green spaces, with Bunkered reporting that Caird Park may be revived under new plans from a Glasgow-based charity.
According to Bunkered, Dundee City Council has identified Movement Park as the preferred bidder for the site of the former municipal golf courses.
The organisation, which promotes active living and community sport, is in advanced talks with the council to bring a new multi-sport activity centre to the city.
Bunkered reports that golf would be one of several activities included in the proposal, aiming to reintroduce the sport to the city following the closure of Dundee’s two remaining public courses earlier this year.
Movement Park’s chief executive, Stephen Somerville, told Bunkered that the charity’s vision is to create a vibrant hub for the community – combining grassroots participation with opportunities for young people to build skills and confidence through movement.
Founded in 2017, Movement Park runs a facility in Glasgow offering classes in parkour, skateboarding, cycling and other sports designed to make physical activity more accessible to all ages. Its focus on “physical literacy” encourages people to develop lifelong habits around movement, confidence, and wellbeing.
If the plans move forward, it could mark a major revival for Caird Park – restoring golf to the site while opening new opportunities for sport and recreation in Dundee.
Further updates are expected to be shared by Dundee City Council later this year.
