Pret A Manger is opening its doors in Broughty Ferry tomorrow — and it’s not just another branch.

This is one of the first Pret cafés of its kind anywhere in the UK: a new format designed specifically for more relaxed, family-friendly dining, complete with made-to-order food, exclusive menu items, and a brand-new coffee blend.

Located at 251 Brook Street, the Broughty Ferry shop is one of only two trial locations (alongside Maidenhead in England) as Pret tests a new direction for its brand beyond its traditional grab-and-go model.

The move reflects changing lifestyles and working patterns, with this new design aiming to cater to longer, more leisurely visits in a comfortable, community-focused setting.

At the heart of the new layout is a spacious dine-in area, with customers now offered full porcelain crockery and a more open environment for enjoying breakfast, lunch or coffee breaks.

There’s even a dedicated Little Stars Café play area — a first for Pret — giving families with young children the chance to enjoy the space together.

Perhaps the biggest change comes in the kitchen. Instead of relying on a self-serve model with rows of fridges, most of the food here is made fresh to order at a longer service counter, allowing customers to watch their toasties, sourdoughs or croissants prepared in real time.

There’s just one ready-to-go refrigerated shelf for those still in a hurry.

The menu has had a full refresh for this format, featuring exclusive items like the Caprese Melt Sourdough Toastie, Croque Monsieur Croissant, and Smashed Avo Sourdough Toast.

New ciabatta subs include a British Chicken & Pesto option, and for something lighter, there’s a Scottish Smoked Salmon & Dill Rye Roll.

Sweet options include a wide array of tarts and cakes, such as the Ruby Berry Crown and Nutty Pistachio & Almond Loaf Cake, only available at these trial locations.

A new light roast coffee blend has also been introduced, exclusive to Broughty Ferry and Maidenhead. Customers can still enjoy Pret’s classic organic Arabica coffee and signature hot chocolate, alongside a full range of smoothies and cold drinks.

Clare Clough, Pret’s Managing Director for UK & Europe, said: “We’re excited to be bringing a new style of Pret to Broughty Ferry with our local franchise partner Joup, one that is more suited to customers in a bit less of a rush who want a comfortable space to enjoy delicious food and spend time with family and friends.”

Henry Dawes, CEO of Joup and originally from Broughty Ferry himself, added: “Having grown up in Broughty Ferry, it brings me so much joy to be opening the first-of-its-kind Pret here with our local community… this shop has something for everyone.”

The new shop officially opens at 12:30pm on Monday 10 June, and has created over 10 new local jobs. It joins Pret’s existing Dundee shop at Whitehall Crescent, and forms part of the brand’s ongoing efforts to reach more communities beyond London.

With a new concept, community focus, and exclusive treats, Pret’s Broughty Ferry café could mark a fresh new chapter in high street dining.
