Dundee distance star Eilish McColgan has revealed that her recent Valencia 10K victory came with an extra, unexpected milestone - a new V35 (Veteran 35) world record.

McColgan admitted she only discovered the achievement after the race, joking that she was not sure whether to be proud or cry, before embracing the moment with humour and trademark honesty.

More importantly, she described the run as deeply personal. Coming back from knee surgery to set a new personal best, McColgan credited her partner Michael for believing in her ability to keep delivering personal bests even when her own confidence wavered, calling the moment more meaningful than any number on a results sheet.

She also shared a light-hearted postscript, noting that the race organiser apologised for not having a Scottish flag ready at the finish line - something McColgan laughed off, adding that he must know her pretty well.
