Dundee is set to receive a share of £20 million in a boost for cultural and community projects

Updated: Apr 17

Dundee is poised to benefit from a wave of cultural, educational and regeneration projects as the city prepares to receive a share of £20 million in UK Government funding.

The investment, delivered through the Community Regeneration Partnership (CRP), will support a wide range of initiatives — from heritage conservation and college skills programmes to life sciences and creative enterprise hubs.

Among the cultural highlights is a £1.2 million investment in the Dundee Museum of Transport, helping the popular attraction continue its transformation into a major visitor destination.

Historic buildings across the city are also set to be revitalised through a £2 million renewal fund, preserving Dundee’s distinctive architectural character.

The city’s creative and knowledge economies are also receiving a boost. A new Legal Tech Education and Incubator Facility will open with £1.1 million in funding, and £2 million has been allocated to help establish a state-of-the-art Protein Degradation Centre as part of the Life Sciences Innovation District.

Other projects focus on the built environment and community wellbeing, such as the Eastern Quarter Improvements and Fabric First Grant Fund, which support urban renewal and sustainable design.

A major £4.5 million investment in Dundee & Angus College’s Future Skills Programme — alongside funding for a new health and social care facility — aims to ensure the next generation is equipped with vital expertise for the future.

Dundee City Council, which led the funding bid and is now overseeing the programme’s delivery, says the investment reflects the city’s proven track record in delivering major projects that create lasting impact.

Councillor Steven Rome, convener of the Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee, said:

“This programme brings exciting opportunities for Dundee and its people. It supports culture, education, innovation and community facilities — all the things that help a city thrive. I’m proud of the work that’s gone into this and excited to see it come to life.”

The projects fall under three key themes: Accelerating Dundee’s Business Ambitions, Enhancing the City Centre and Bridging the Divide.

Each reflects the city’s commitment to inclusive growth, community pride, and creating a vibrant future shaped by both its heritage and ambition.

Details of the programme will be presented to councillors at a committee meeting on April 21.
