St Paul’s Cathedral in Dundee is set to come alive with music this autumn as it launches a brand-new Evening Concert Series, blending iconic pop and rock hits with the grandeur of classical performance.
Taking place across four Fridays in September and October, the one-hour concerts will transform well-known songs from ABBA, Queen, and popular musicals into elegant arrangements for string quartet or solo piano.
Set against the atmospheric backdrop of the historic Cathedral, the series aims to offer something truly unique for local audiences.
The programme kicks off with A Night of ABBA Strings on Friday 19 September, promising an orchestral twist on the Swedish supergroup’s greatest hits.
Then on 10 October, From Stage to Strings will reimagine songs from classic musicals in a fresh, instrumental format. The following week, on 17 October, Piano Goes Pop features a solo pianist performing chart favourites in a stripped-back, expressive style.
Rounding off the series on 31 October is A Kind of Magic: Queen Strings, delivering a stirring tribute to Freddie Mercury and company.
Each concert begins at 7:30pm and lasts around an hour, designed to be accessible, welcoming, and uplifting.
With ticket prices starting from just £7.50, the organisers hope to open the Cathedral’s doors to a wider community and connect generations through music that feels both familiar and fresh.
