Dundee City West MSP Heather Anderson used the Dundonian Scots dialect while being sworn into the Scottish Parliament today.
The new MSP, who was elected at last week’s Scottish Parliament election as the SNP candidate for Dundee City West, took her affirmation in both English and Dundonian Scots - a dialect officially recognised by the parliament.
Anderson was among the 129 MSPs from across Scotland sworn in at Holyrood in Edinburgh as the seventh session of the Scottish Parliament formally got underway.
She replaces Joe FitzPatrick, who stepped down ahead of the election after representing the area in parliament since 2007.
Alongside today’s proceedings, a by-election was officially triggered for the Arbroath & Broughty Ferry constituency at Westminster, which covers parts of Dundee. This follows the resignation of Stephen Gethins after he secured victory in Dundee City East at last week’s election.
Dundonian Stephen Flynn also resigned his Aberdeen South seat at Westminster after winning in the Scottish Parliament election.
