Dundee is set to host a major summer festival in the heart of the city, bringing together communities from across the area in a celebration of kindness, heritage and shared stories.
The Courier exclusively reported on plans by Dundee City Council for the establishment of the city centre event that will take place in June, centred around a message of compassion and togetherness.
Organisers hope the festival will create a space where people can share food, music, performances and experiences that reflect the many journeys which have shaped Dundee over generations.
A key part of the programme will be the Dundee Kindness exhibition, shining a spotlight on individuals and organisations who quietly go above and beyond to support others. The exhibition aims to highlight everyday acts that strengthen communities and make a difference across the city.
The celebration is also expected to feature a procession involving local groups, activities in City Square, a ceilidh and a shared meal for participants. Schools, community organisations and representatives from across Dundee are already involved in shaping the event, with further details to be confirmed in the coming months.
The festival has been described by city leaders as an opportunity to recognise Dundee’s long history as a city shaped by people arriving from near and far.
City leaders said Dundee has also seen generations leave its shores to build new lives elsewhere, while more recently welcoming families seeking safety from conflict in places such as Syria and Ukraine. They added that the planned festival reflects a continued commitment to ensuring Dundee is known as a place where people feel safe, respected and supported.
It is hoped that the June celebration will become a positive focal point for the city this summer, highlighting both Dundee’s proud past and its shared future.
