Dundee is getting £335K to help boost sporting activities for young people this summer

Children and young people across Dundee will have access to a wide range of free and low-cost sporting activities this summer thanks to a new funding package worth £335,000.

The investment forms part of the Scottish Government’s £18 million Summer of Sport initiative, which aims to encourage young people to get active during the school holidays while breaking down barriers to participation.

Dundee City Council and Leisure & Culture Dundee, through Active Dundee and a range of local partners, are working alongside sportscotland to deliver the programme across the city.

One of the key attractions will be the Make a Splash This Summer initiative, allowing children and young people to use any of Dundee’s swimming pools for just £1 per session throughout the summer period.

The programme will also include a variety of physical activities delivered through Active Schools, alongside dance and movement sessions designed to offer alternative ways for young people to become involved in sport and exercise.

Funding will also be made available to schools to improve playgrounds and outdoor play spaces, helping create more opportunities for physical activity and active play beyond the summer months.

The £335,000 allocated to Dundee will support activities throughout the summer and into the future, with a focus on reducing inequalities in access to sport and encouraging long-term participation among children and young people.

Across Scotland, the £18 million Summer of Sport programme is being funded by the Scottish Government and delivered through sportscotland. The initiative is aimed at young people aged between three and 26 years old.
