Registration has now opened for folk interested in taking part in the Torchlight Procession at this year’s Dundee Hooley celebrations.
The Dundee Hooley is set to return in spectacular style this winter, lighting up the city centre with a magical Torchlight Procession on Sunday, 30th November at 5.30pm.
The event promises to be an unforgettable evening of colour, music, and community spirit, with participants carrying glowing wax torches through the streets of Dundee.
Alongside the torchbearers, the parade will feature a dazzling line-up of fire performers, live bands, community dancers, giant puppets, lanterns, street performers, and a pipe band – creating a feast for the senses as it winds through the city centre.
The procession will begin and end at the High School of Dundee, following a looping route via Panmure Street, Murraygate, High Street, and Reform Street.
Anyone aged 16 or over can register to carry a torch, though those aged 16 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Children and non-torch-carrying companions are also welcome to take part, making the event open to families and groups alike.
Spaces are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis, so organisers are encouraging early registration to avoid disappointment.
Participants will receive a wristband, a new 60cm wax torch complete with a safety guard, and support from trained staff along the route.
Torches can be extinguished at designated points during the event, and ID checks may be carried out for younger participants.
To keep everyone safe, organisers are asking attendees not to bring fireworks, sparklers, large bags, or animals (apart from guide dogs).
Torch carriers are asked to arrive at the High School playground from 4.45pm to collect their torches and line up, with the last chance to join at 5.15pm before the parade sets off at 5.30pm.
The 0.5-mile route is mostly flat, though sections with cobbles may be encountered.
Spectators and participants alike can expect a truly festive evening filled with light, music, and movement.
