Baxter Park play area officially reopens following major upgrade

Children and families can once again enjoy Baxter Park's play area after a major redevelopment officially reached completion.

The upgraded play park has now reopened, with members of the local community gathering to celebrate the completion of the project and explore the new facilities.

Designed by Dundee City Council's Environment and Open Space teams, the refreshed play area has been given a fantasy village theme, creating opportunities for children to explore, imagine and solve problems through play while helping to develop cognitive, social and emotional skills.

Accessibility has been placed at the heart of the redesign, with inclusive play equipment and features intended to meet the needs of children with a wide range of abilities, allowing more families to enjoy the space together.

Depute Climate, Net Zero & Environment Convener Councillor Lee Mills said the city's play areas play an important role in encouraging children outdoors while supporting their health and wellbeing.

He added that Baxter Park remains one of Dundee's most popular parks and welcomed the creation of a more inclusive environment where children of all abilities can play together.

Depute City Growth & Infrastructure Convener Councillor Siobhan Tolland said the investment forms part of a wider programme to modernise and improve play areas across Dundee. She also highlighted that sustainably sourced FSC-certified timber was selected for the equipment to increase its lifespan and reduce future replacements.

The work follows approval by Dundee City Council's Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee in August 2025, with Dundee Plant carrying out the improvements.
