Dundee has been named the best in UK for Dentistry in new national ranking

The University of Dundee has been named the best university in the UK for Dentistry in a new national ranking, finishing ahead of some of Britain’s biggest universities!
The City of Discovery has taken the number one spot in the Dentistry.co.uk 2027 UK Dental School Ranking, achieving an overall score of 75.2 out of 100.
Dundee finished ahead of Queen’s University Belfast, which narrowly missed out on first place with 74.3, while Birmingham, Glasgow and Sheffield completed the top five.
It’s another fantastic achievement for the university and further recognition of Dundee’s reputation for dental education and research.
Dundee takes the top spot
The new ranking was created by Dentistry.co.uk to provide a more focused comparison of dental schools across the UK.
Unlike traditional university league tables, which can include factors such as graduate salaries and university-wide spending, the study concentrates on the areas its researchers believe matter most in dental education.
These include the quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, student experiences, research influence and publication quality.
Entry standards, student continuation rates and international research collaboration were also taken into account.
And when all those factors were combined, Dundee came out on top.
How did other universities perform?
The University of Dundee secured first place with 75.2 points, just 0.9 points ahead of Queen’s University Belfast.
The results place Dundee ahead of several long-established dental schools, including those at Glasgow, Newcastle, Cardiff and Manchester.
What makes this ranking different?
One of the most interesting aspects of the study is how it measures the performance of dental schools.
The researchers gave almost equal importance to student experiences and the strength of dentistry research produced by each university.
Graduate employment figures were excluded because dentistry is a regulated profession with generally strong employment prospects.
University-wide spending and student-to-staff ratios were also left out because the available figures could not reliably identify resources specifically allocated to dental schools.
The result is a ranking designed to focus more closely on dental education itself rather than the wider performance of each university.
Another fantastic achievement for Dundee
Dundee has a long-established history of dental education, with its School of Dentistry helping to train generations of dental professionals.
The latest ranking provides another reason for the city to celebrate its contribution to education, healthcare and scientific research.
And with Dundee securing first place against 14 other institutions, the results put the university firmly in the spotlight for prospective dental students considering where to study.
From the City of Discovery to the top of the UK rankings – another fantastic achievement for Dundee!
The rankings were compiled by Dentistry.co.uk for its 2027 UK Dental School Ranking, using a combination of student experience, research and academic indicators.
