Dundee City Council has announced a series of road closures across the city centre to accommodate this year’s Christmas celebrations, including the popular Christmas lights switch-on, Santa Dash, and Dundee Hooley events.

The festive season will officially begin on Sunday 16 November with the Christmas Switch-On and Dundee Santa Dash. To ensure public safety, full road closures will be in place from 8am to 9pm on High Street between Reform Street and Commercial Street, and on Reform Street between High Street and Bank Street.

A temporary rolling closure will also take effect between 8am and 12.30pm to make way for the Santa Dash, which starts and ends in City Square at 10.30am. Roads affected include West Bell Street, Constitution Road, Ward Road, Reform Street, Bank Street, Barrack Street, Panmure Street, Meadowside, Murraygate, Commercial Street, and High Street.

Parking restrictions will be in force on Reform Street and Bank Street from 6pm on Saturday 15 November to allow for event set-up and public access.

Later in the month, on Sunday 30 November, the city will host the Dundee Hooley, featuring a festive parade and live entertainment throughout the day. Roads including Meadowside, Reform Street, Bank Street, Panmure Street, Euclid Street, Euclid Crescent, and High Street (from Castle Street to Reform Street) will be fully closed from 8am until 10.30pm.

A rolling closure will take place between 5.30pm and 6.30pm as the parade makes its way from the High School of Dundee playground along Meadowside, Commercial Street, and Murraygate before returning to its starting point.

Parking restrictions will again apply on Reform Street and Bank Street from 6pm on Saturday 29 November.

Dundee City Council confirmed that emergency access will be maintained throughout both events. Blue badge holders with access concerns are encouraged to contact the council in advance so that suitable arrangements can be made.

The closures are designed to ensure public safety as thousands are expected to attend the celebrations throughout November.
