ANDREW BATCHELOR: Dundee’s marina plan may have been shelved, but the opportunity hasn’t disappeared

It’s sad to hear that plans for a marina at Camperdown Dock have been axed.

Like many, I was excited by the vision. A marina would have brought a new dimension to Dundee’s waterfront, creating another reason for people to visit, supporting local businesses and helping unlock even more of the incredible potential that exists around our historic docks.

That said, I don’t think this should be seen as the end of the story.

Camperdown Dock remains one of Dundee’s most unique spaces, and it’s clear that it still deserves investment and a long-term vision for its future. While a marina may not be happening right now, there are still plenty of opportunities to build on the momentum we’ve already seen.

Water’s Edge has brought new life to the area, while WildShore Dundee has shown just how popular the docks can be when they’re filled with activity. Both have helped transform perceptions of the waterfront and proved that people and businesses want to spend time and use this area.

The challenge now is to keep that progress going.

Be it new attractions, leisure opportunities, events, public spaces or another ambitious project in the years ahead, I hope Camperdown Dock continues to evolve.

Dundee has shown time and again that regeneration doesn’t happen overnight, and some of our best projects have taken years to come to fruition.

It’s natural to feel disappointed that the marina won’t be moving forward, but I’d rather focus on what comes next than what might have been.

The docks have enormous potential, and I genuinely believe their best days are still ahead. Let’s keep the conversation going and continue looking for ideas that will help this fantastic part of Dundee reach its full potential.
