ANDREW BATCHELOR: Dundee’s Christmas lights switch on in November is completely normal

Despite the absolutely amazing response from the lights switch on at the weekend, there are a lot of folk asking the same question and others complaining again this year about Dundee’s Christmas lights going up in November.
So to reiterate yet again, like last year and previous years, this is completely normal. Lights are always installed throughout November so the team can get everything safely in place across the city centre.
It takes time to set up the displays, check the electrics, test everything, and make sure the streets are ready for the festive season.
Just like last night, switch-on events also take place in November, so the decorations need to be up well in advance to make sure Dundee is looking its best for the start of the city’s Christmas programme which properly kicks off on December 4th - which is the Christmas period.
So yes - the lights are up in November, just like they are every year. Nothing unusual here at all.
And honestly, it gives families and especially the wee ones something to get excited about as Christmas approaches.
I’m just fed up of some folk who want to take that joy away.
You never know if someone there last night had been going through a rough patch and the lights gave them a wee moment of happiness they really needed.
For some people, this time of year is one of the few things that lifts their spirits. If the lights bring a bit of joy to families, youngsters, or anyone who could be doing with a boost, that’s something we should be celebrating - no’ moaning about.
