A vibrant mix of music, creativity, and community spirit is set to take over Newport-on-Tay on Saturday 2 August, as the Lughnasadh Music and Art Festival returns for its second year.

Hosted on the scenic grounds of Forgan Arts Centre – just across the river from Dundee and still within the city's postcode boundary – the event runs from 2pm to 9pm and promises an eclectic line-up of performances and activities for all ages.

Organised in partnership with Big Rock Records, this year's festival builds on the success of 2024’s event, headlined by Hamish Hawk, with a programme packed with acclaimed Scottish talent.

Highlights include haunting singer-songwriter Kathryn Joseph and genre-defying jazz collective corto.alto, fresh from a Mercury Prize nomination.

The line-up also features Sacred Paws, winners of the Scottish Album of the Year Award, as well as Free Love, Lacuna, Becky Sikasa – BBC Introducing’s Scottish Act of the Year 2025 – and local rock favourites Connor Liam Byrne & the Bad Kissers. The party continues into the evening with Funky Gunners DJs keeping the rhythm alive.

In addition to music, the festival includes interactive art workshops curated by artist Ruby Pester, guided garden tours, and stalls offering local food and drink. It’s designed as a family-friendly experience, making it a perfect day out during the final stretch of summer.

The festival takes its name from the ancient Celtic celebration of Lughnasadh [pronounced LOO-nah-sah], which marks the beginning of the harvest season and honours nature’s cycles.

Organisers say the event is one of four seasonal festivals held to connect people with the land and its traditions.

Tickets are now available and include various pricing options to suit different budgets.

A standard ticket costs £27.50, with donation options ranging from £35 to £60 for those wishing to give extra support. Under 16s tickets are priced at £12, and a family ticket is available for £68.

Children under 3 and essential companions can attend free of charge. A ‘Pay What You Can’ ticket is also on offer for £15, helping make the event accessible to more people.

More details and tickets can be found via Forgan Arts Centre’s website.
