A new sensory space has just opened at V&A Dundee
A colourful new sensory space co-designed by local people with learning disabilities has opened at V&A Dundee.
The Room invites visitors to play, create, explore and unwind through a range of sensory experiences, with music, colour, touch, light, drawing and soft sculptures all forming part of the new space.
Designed with creativity, self-expression and choice at its heart, visitors can interact with the space in different ways or simply find somewhere to pause and relax.
Those behind the project describe The Room as being made for “play, sensory exploration, feeling, laughter, rest, friendship, mess, expression and choice.”
The project was co-designed by local Dundonians with learning disabilities, placing their ideas and experiences at the centre of the finished space.
The Room was brought to life with support from (josa)Finni Porter Chambers, the Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities, Zoe Gibson, Reeves & Bond and Jamie Stein MISTD. Camira Fabrics also donated fabric to the project.
The new sensory space is free to visit and can be found inside V&A Dundee’s Designer in Residence Studio.
The Room is open now and will remain at the museum until 31 October.
