An indoor cycling skills park is set to open in Dundee later this year as part of the transformation of the Bell Street multi-storey car park into a new green travel hub.
The facility will form a key part of the Bell Street Hub, where Angus Cycle Hub CIC has now moved into the ground floor of the refurbished building.
When fully launched, the indoor cycling skills park will feature a pump track, bike trails and opportunities for coaching and learning, creating a unique space where riders of all ages can develop their confidence and cycling abilities.
The project is believed to be one of the first facilities of its kind in Scotland at this scale, offering an indoor environment dedicated to cycling skills development alongside wider active travel initiatives.
Alongside the future skills park, Angus Cycle Hub has already opened a state-of-the-art bike shop and cycle service centre which is now welcoming members of the public.
The Bell Street Hub will also operate as a regional bike reuse centre, recycling more than 4,000 bikes each year. Bicycles collected from recycling centres and public donations will be repaired and returned to use, helping more people access affordable bikes.
Secure 24-hour public bicycle parking and storage is also expected to launch at the site by the end of March.
The wider redevelopment of the Bell Street car park is being delivered after Dundee City Council secured £14.4 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund alongside £1.6 million from Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund.
Council convener of City Growth and Infrastructure Steven Rome said the redevelopment represents a major shift in how the building will serve the city.
“The total project represents an ambitious redevelopment of the car park into a pioneering green transport hub which is designed to help support people to change travel habits for the future,” he said.
Once complete, the hub will combine cycling facilities, repair services, bike reuse and skills development in a single location in Dundee’s city centre.
