The Caird Park golf course could soon be given a new lease of life, as discussions are under way to bring the much-loved facility back into use through community ownership.
According to posts shared by the Friends of Cairdy and the Golf Course Facebook group, local golfers are in talks to take over the running of the course, which has long been a key part of Dundee’s sporting landscape.
The Caird Park golf course closed in April following cuts from the city council which were first revealed in February last year when Broughty Castle, Mills Observatory and the golf course faced closure.
Mills Observatory and Broughty Castle were subsequently saved from closure whilst the golf course closed - however that may soon change if the community ownership proposal gains support.
[We] are hoping that progress is made and that all golfers that enjoyed Cairdy get behind this, especially to get the park in general in order.
– John Hutchison, Admin of Friends of Cairdy and The Golf Course
The move comes after growing public interest in restoring the course for community use, with campaigners hopeful that a community-led approach could secure its long-term future.
While no official decisions have been made, the ongoing discussions mark a positive step forward in efforts to revive the golf course, which has remained closed for some time.
Further updates are expected as talks progress.
