Weather warning highlights potential disruption for travellers heading in and out of Dundee

A spell of wintry weather forecast for the middle of this week is expected to have more impact on those travelling to and from Dundee rather than the city itself.

While Dundee is not at the centre of the warning area, routes linking the city with the wider Tayside region could be affected by snow, strong winds and reduced visibility.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of eastern and northern Scotland, covering areas including Angus, Perthshire, Fife and Stirling.

The alert comes into force from midnight on Tuesday and runs until 3pm on Wednesday, with conditions expected to worsen as colder air moves in.

Forecasters say rain moving into the region will increasingly turn to sleet and snow through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Lower-lying areas near the coast are likely to see a mix of rain, sleet and snow, meaning Dundee itself may avoid significant accumulations.

However, higher ground across the surrounding region is expected to see more notable snowfall. Areas above 100 metres could see 1 to 3 cm of snow, with totals increasing to around 10 cm above 200 metres and possibly higher in isolated spots. These conditions are most likely to affect key routes used by commuters and travellers entering or leaving the city.

Strong winds are also expected at times, raising the risk of blizzard conditions and drifting snow in more exposed locations. This combination could make journeys slower and more difficult, particularly on rural roads and higher routes around Tayside.

The Met Office has warned that some roads and rail services across the wider region may be affected, with longer journey times possible. Travellers planning to leave Dundee or return to the city during the warning period are being advised to keep an eye on the latest forecasts and travel updates.
