V&A Dundee, RRS Discovery and Mills Observatory have been listed as three of Scotland’s best highlights by VisitScotland

Dundee has taken centre stage in a new feature from VisitScotland, which highlights the best attractions across the country’s eight cities.

The national tourism body placed Dundee first in its Scottish Cities guide on Instagram, showcasing three of the city’s most celebrated landmarks.

The V&A Dundee, RRS Discovery and Mills Observatory were selected as Dundee’s standout highlights, placing the city alongside major attractions in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Perth, Inverness, Stirling and Dunfermline.

The guide aims to help visitors plan their next trip to Scotland by spotlighting each city’s unique character, culture and experiences.

The inclusion of V&A Dundee reflects its growing reputation as one of the country’s leading design destinations.

Since opening in 2018, the museum has drawn visitors from across the world with its striking Kengo Kuma architecture and wide range of exhibitions.

RRS Discovery, the iconic Antarctic research ship built in Dundee, also earned a place on the list. The vessel remains one of Scotland’s most important historic attractions, offering a close look at the legacy of exploration and Dundee’s shipbuilding past.

The third highlight, Mills Observatory, continues its resurgence as one of the city’s most distinctive visitor experiences.

As Britain’s first purpose-built public observatory, it remains a rare cultural landmark, drawing people of all ages to learn about the night sky.

Dundee’s appearance at the top of VisitScotland’s feature list adds to a growing wave of national and international recognition.

In recent months, the city has been featured by leading travel platforms including Condé Nast Traveler, TimeOut, Travel and Tour World and Island magazine in the United States.

For VisitScotland, the new guide celebrates the richness and diversity found across the country’s urban centres, but Dundee’s prominence reinforces its reputation as one of Scotland’s most creative and forward-looking cities.
