V&A Dundee named one of the UK’s most beautiful places to visit by Time Out

The V&A Dundee has been named one of the most beautiful places to visit in the UK by leading travel and culture publication Time Out.

The landmark Dundee museum has placed 12th in Time Out’s newly updated list of the 23 most beautiful places in Britain for 2026, sitting alongside some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes, towns and architectural landmarks.

Published on Friday 28 August, the list stretches across the UK, with the colourful Welsh seaside town of Tenby taking the number one spot.

But Dundee also makes an appearance thanks to one of the most recognisable additions to the city’s waterfront in generations.

Time Out praises V&A Dundee as an example of a museum dedicated to design becoming an impressive piece of design in its own right, highlighting its dramatic position overlooking the River Tay and the architecture of Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.

The publication describes the museum as a “thing of splendour”, highlighting the twisting and folding walls of its two concrete structures and how its design evokes both Scotland’s rugged coastline and the prow of a ship.

Opened in September 2018, V&A Dundee was designed by Kuma following an international architectural competition and became Scotland’s first dedicated design museum and the first V&A museum anywhere in the world outside London.

Its distinctive shape was inspired by Scotland’s eastern cliffs, while the museum stretches out towards the River Tay as a striking centrepiece of Dundee’s transformed waterfront.

And Time Out clearly has a bit of a soft spot for Dundee’s design museum.

Earlier this year, the publication also placed V&A Dundee among its 20 best museums in the UK for 2026, praising its Scottish Design Galleries, major exhibitions and Dundee’s wider design credentials.

There was even a very Dundee recommendation included alongside its latest accolade.

Time Out suggested visitors follow up a trip around the museum by heading just a few metres away for an award-winning doughnut and coffee from Heather Street Food.
