New Dundee Irish pub Malones is looking for local musicians ahead of October opening
A new Irish pub opening in Dundee next month is looking for local bands and musicians to take to its stage – with paid gigs up for grabs.
Malones Dundee is currently taking shape on Panmure Street, where the former BrewDog bar is undergoing a £250,000 transformation ahead of its opening in October.
And live music is set to play a huge part in the new venue.
The award-winning Irish pub group plans to host live entertainment five nights a week, with a dedicated stage forming part of the revamped city centre bar.
Now the team behind Malones wants Dundee’s own musicians to be at the heart of it.
Dundee musicians wanted
Local bands and performers interested in securing paid gigs at Malones are being encouraged to get in touch ahead of the opening.
The opportunity is open to musicians across a variety of genres, although Malones is particularly interested in crowd-pleasing performers who can deliver popular hits.
Acts will typically perform for sessions lasting between two and three hours, with the team hoping to build a strong roster of Dundee talent for regular gigs and future events.
Simon Keane, director at Malones, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing the Malones’ craic to Dundee, and we’re really keen that from the outset our new venue develops its own distinctive character.
“Local musicians performing at the venue will help us to achieve that, while also providing another city centre stage for local talent.
“We’d urge any musicians or bands who are interested to get in touch.”
£250,000 transformation underway
Malones announced earlier this year that it would be taking over the historic Panmure Street premises previously occupied by BrewDog.
Around £250,000 is being invested in transforming the venue, which will combine live music with major sporting events, home-cooked pub food and plenty of Irish favourites behind the bar.
Guinness, Murphy’s, Beamish and Club Orange will all be among the drinks available.
The Dundee opening will become the latest addition to the growing Malones family, joining existing venues in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Leith and Glasgow.
And with entertainment planned for five nights every week, it could soon provide another important stage for Dundee’s musicians right in the heart of the city.
