The McManus are opening a new exhibition celebrating Scotland’s top modern artists next weekend

Updated: 8 hours ago

A new major exhibition spotlighting ten of Scotland’s most influential modern artists is set to open at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum this weekend.

Titled Border Crossings: Ten Scottish Masters of Modern Art, the exhibition opens to the public on Saturday 28 June and will run until 14 June 2026.

It brings together a collection of work by ten pioneering artists whose impact on 20th-century art reached far beyond Scotland’s borders.

Among the featured artists are Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Robert Colquhoun, William Crozier, Alan Davie, William Gear, William Johnstone, Robert MacBryde, Eduardo Paolozzi, William Scott, and William Turnbull.

All ten forged successful international careers and played a role in shaping modern art movements in cities such as London, Paris and New York.

The exhibition draws exclusively from Dundee’s nationally recognised art collection and marks the first time these ten figures have been brought together in a single display at The McManus.

The exhibition is expected to attract both local audiences and art enthusiasts from further afield. It forms part of The McManus’s ongoing commitment to highlighting significant voices in Scottish art history.

Admission is free, and the exhibition will be open during normal gallery hours—Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sundays from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
