The Halloween films you can watch on the big screen in Dundee this October

Halloween is creeping closer and, for horror fans, there’s a pretty good excuse to spend a few of October’s darker evenings at the cinema.

Cineworld Dundee is bringing seven horror favourites back to the big screen throughout the month, ranging from Christopher Lee’s Dracula to zombies, witchcraft and one particularly unsettling man in a rabbit costume.

A few are returning to celebrate big anniversaries, while others have been restored in 4K for their latest trip back to cinemas.

So, if your idea of getting into the Halloween spirit involves sitting in the dark with a bucket of popcorn and something considerably more frightening on screen, here’s what’s coming to Dundee.

Note: DUNDEAD is getting it's own feature, coming up next!

Manhunter: The Final Cut — Friday 2 October

First up is Manhunter, returning to cinemas 40 years after its original release.

Michael Mann’s 1986 psychological thriller introduced cinema audiences to Hannibal Lecktor several years before The Silence of the Lambs made the character a household name.

William Petersen stars as FBI profiler Will Graham, who is brought back from retirement to help track down a serial killer.

It gets Dundee’s month of horror underway on Friday 2 October.

Train to Busan — Tuesday 6 October

Things get considerably more frantic a few days later.

South Korean zombie thriller Train to Busan is returning to the big screen for its 10th anniversary.

Released in 2016, the film follows passengers aboard a high-speed train as a zombie outbreak rapidly spreads across South Korea.

Most of the action takes place on the train itself, leaving its passengers with very few places to run as the infection gets closer.

The Craft — Friday 9 October

Next comes one of the supernatural cult favourites of the 1990s.

The Craft turns 30 this year and is heading back to cinemas to mark the anniversary.

The film follows four teenage girls who begin experimenting with witchcraft and quickly discover that getting what you wish for isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Three decades on, it has built up a sizeable cult following – and Friday 9 October offers the chance to see it on the big screen again.

Dracula — Friday 16 October

It wouldn’t be much of a Halloween season without Dracula making an appearance somewhere.

This time it’s Hammer’s Dracula, with the 1958 horror classic returning in a new 4K restoration.

Christopher Lee stars as Count Dracula opposite Peter Cushing’s Van Helsing in a film that helped define the look and feel of British gothic horror for a generation.

Almost 70 years after audiences first saw it, Dundee cinemagoers will get another chance to experience it as it was intended – in a darkened cinema.

The Others — Tuesday 20 October

If zombies and vampires aren’t quite unsettling enough, The Others returns on Tuesday 20 October.

The supernatural horror starring Nicole Kidman is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Set in the aftermath of the Second World War, Kidman plays a mother living with her two children in an isolated country house.

Then strange things begin happening.

Saying much more risks spoiling a film that’s best experienced without knowing too much beforehand.

From Dusk Till Dawn — Saturday 24 October

From Dusk Till Dawn also turns 30 in 2026 – although anyone watching it for the first time might want to go in without reading too much about where the story ends up.

George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino play criminal brothers who take a family hostage while trying to cross into Mexico.

What starts out looking like a fairly straightforward crime film doesn’t stay that way for very long.

It returns to cinemas on Saturday 24 October.

Donnie Darko — Friday 30 October

And on the night before Halloween, things get weird.

Donnie Darko returns to cinemas for its 25th anniversary on Friday 30 October.

Richard Kelly’s 2001 cult film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as troubled teenager Donnie, whose encounters with a sinister figure in a rabbit costume lead him into an increasingly strange story involving fate, time and the possible end of the world.

The film is being shown in a 4K restoration – an appropriately strange way to round off Dundee’s month of returning horror favourites.

How much are tickets?

The screenings are part of Cineworld’s nationwide Horror Film Season, running from Friday 2 October until Saturday 31 October.

Tickets cost £5.99 for each film when booked online, rising to £6.99 when bought at the cinema.

The full Dundee line-up is:

  • Friday 2 October — Manhunter: The Final Cut

  • Tuesday 6 October — Train to Busan

  • Friday 9 October — The Craft

  • Friday 16 October — Dracula

  • Tuesday 20 October — The Others

  • Saturday 24 October — From Dusk Till Dawn

  • Friday 30 October — Donnie Darko

Seven films, nearly seven decades of horror and plenty of opportunities to hide behind the popcorn.

And with the final screening falling just one night before Halloween, Cineworld Dundee has October’s horror viewing pretty well covered.
