The Glass Menagerie is coming to Dundee Rep this autumn, bringing Tennessee Williams’ iconic family drama back to the city in a brand-new production.

Running from 2 to 18 October 2025, the production promises to deliver a powerful mix of emotion, atmosphere and unforgettable performances.

What is the Glass Menagerie about?

Fragile dreams, fierce tensions, and one family at the heart of it all. Tom, trapped in a soul-crushing job and burdened with the weight of supporting his overbearing mother, Amanda, and painfully shy sister, Laura, longs for escape. When he invites Jim, a charming but well-meaning acquaintance, to dinner, Amanda seizes the moment to secure Laura’s future happiness. As hopes rise, family tensions mount, and cracks in their relationships deepen, threatening to shatter their fragile world apart for good.

The play has a rich history at Dundee Rep. Back in 1996, a young David Tennant, long before his days playing the Tenth, and Fourteenth Doctors in Doctor Who, starred in The Glass Menagerie here as his career was beginning to take flight.

This new production continues that tradition of reimagining classic works for today’s audiences, offering Dundee the opportunity to revisit a story that has captivated theatre-goers for generations.
