The Dundee Tapestry will close this Sunday, 6 April, after an extended and hugely successful run at V&A Dundee.

Since its unveiling in January 2024, the exhibition has drawn in thousands of visitors, celebrating the city’s past, present, and future through intricate hand-stitched panels.

Originally set to close earlier, the tapestry was extended until April due to its popularity. The extension also saw the exhibition relocated to a larger space and expanded with three additional panels - Shipbuilding, Factory Life, and Doon the Toon - which were created by Sandra Allstaff, Jean Davidson, Christine Don, Cath Gardiner, Ervin Mackie, and Lynne Potts.

The tapestry’s detailed storytelling and craftsmanship have made a lasting impression, with highlights including panels dedicated to Dundee’s music scene, its rich industrial past, and its women’s history.

A special live music event in February marked the reopening of the expanded exhibition, featuring Sheena Wellington, Aileen Carr, Barbara Dymock, Chris Marra, and Lynne Campbell performing traditional Dundee songs.

Since its launch, the exhibition has attracted over 149,000 visitors, with 86,000 attending between January and April 2024 and a further 63,000 visiting since it reopened in November 2024.

While its time at V&A Dundee is coming to an end, there is growing interest in finding a permanent home for the tapestry so that more people can experience this remarkable tribute to Dundee’s heritage.

For those who haven’t yet seen the Dundee Tapestry, this weekend offers a final chance before the exhibition closes. More information on visiting can be found on V&A Dundee’s official website.
