A new exhibition at Dundee Museum of Transport that will celebrate the legacy and passion behind some of Japan’s most iconic performance cars, has just opened today.

Titled Tokyo to Tay: Icons of Japanese Performance, the exhibition brings together a remarkable collection of Japanese performance vehicles and rare imports, highlighting the influence these machines have had on car culture across Scotland and beyond.

Created in collaboration with the Japanese Performance Car Club Scotland and a number of private owners, Tokyo to Tay explores how Japan’s automotive industry became a global leader in engineering, style, and innovation.

From precision-built sports cars to beloved street legends, each vehicle tells a story of craftsmanship and community spirit.

The display captures more than just the technical brilliance of Japanese performance cars – it delves into the emotional connection between drivers and their vehicles.

Whether it’s the adrenaline of taking the wheel or the pride of maintaining something truly unique, these cars represent decades of dedication from enthusiasts around the world.

Visitors will be able to view the exhibition at the museum throughout autumn, with plenty of opportunities to learn about the cars’ histories and their place in modern motoring culture.

Tokyo to Tay: Icons of Japanese Performance runs from October to December at Dundee Museum of Transport.
