Loganair has axed their Dundee to London Heathrow flights

Flights connecting Dundee with London Heathrow are set to come to an end later this year, in a move that has raised concerns for passengers, businesses and airport staff.

As per STV News, airline operator Loganair has confirmed its intention to withdraw from the route following a review of the service.

The Dundee to Heathrow connection currently operates twice daily on weekdays and once on Sundays, forming a key link between the city and the UK’s busiest airport. The route is supported through a public service obligation agreement, with funding provided by Dundee City Council alongside the UK and Scottish governments.

Loganair said the decision comes after assessing the long-term viability of the route, adding that it has formally notified Dundee City Council and other stakeholders of its plans. The airline has stated that it remains committed to its Dundee base and is now exploring potential alternatives, including the possibility of flights to other London airports.

Despite reassurances from the airline, the announcement has created uncertainty for workers at Dundee Airport. Union representatives say more than 30 jobs could be affected, including roles in air traffic control, security, firefighting and baggage handling. Concerns have also been raised about the wider impact on the local economy.

Unite has warned that the loss of the Heathrow route could have knock-on effects for both business travel and tourism. The union argues that the direct connection makes Dundee more accessible and attractive, particularly for visitors and professionals travelling between Scotland and London.

A Dundee City Council spokesperson confirmed that discussions are ongoing with Loganair and funding partners, with efforts focused on understanding the next steps for the route. The service is expected to continue operating as normal until September 18, giving time for further talks to take place.

Flights between Dundee and Orkney, which are also supported through a public service obligation, are expected to remain unaffected by the changes.
