KT Tunstall to headline Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony

Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall has been announced as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

KT Tunstall will perform alongside fellow Scottish artists Callum Beattie and Nina Nesbitt when the Games officially get underway, helping to launch the international sporting spectacle in front of a global television audience.

While now recognised around the world as a Grammy-nominated, BRIT Award-winning artist, KT’s musical journey has strong roots in Dundee.

Before finding international success, she spent time busking in the city centre, including in the walkway at the Olympia.

Speaking at the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award ceremony at Dundee’s Caird Hall last year, KT fondly recalled those early days, telling the audience she had once been asked to leave the Olympia walkway while busking there as a teenager.

The Glasgow 2026 opening ceremony, hosted at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, is expected to celebrate Scottish culture, music and creativity alongside the beginning of the Games, with KT, Callum Beattie and Nina Nesbitt representing three of the country’s most recognisable contemporary artists.

Millions of viewers are expected to follow the ceremony across television and streaming platforms.

In the UK, 5 will broadcast the opening ceremony live on both television and its streaming service, before airing daily highlights programmes presented by former Olympic sprinter Jeanette Kwakye throughout the Games.

Comprehensive live coverage of the sporting action will also be available through TNT Sports, which is serving as the UK’s official broadcaster and streaming partner for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
