IKEA Dundee's opening has been delayed

The opening of IKEA’s new Plan and Order Point in Dundee has been postponed, with the retailer confirming the store will no longer launch as originally scheduled this morning.

The delay is due to an issue with certification, with IKEA stating it has not yet received the required Certificate of Occupation needed to open the site. The new store, located at Kingsway West Retail Park, had been preparing to welcome its first customers this week following weeks of build-up.

In a statement, IKEA Scotland’s Market Manager Kevin Coventry said the team is working quickly to resolve the issue. He confirmed that while everything had been in place for launch, the outstanding certification has prevented the store from opening its doors.

He said the company apologises for the inconvenience and disappointment caused to customers who had been planning to visit the new Dundee location. The store had generated strong local interest, with many keen to explore its design-focused concept and services.

The Dundee site is set to introduce a different IKEA experience, centred around planning kitchens, bedrooms and living spaces through consultations and in-store tools. Once open, it will also serve as a collection and returns point for online orders, alongside offering a curated range of home accessories.

The postponement also means planned media activity and launch events will not go ahead as expected. IKEA has confirmed it is actively working to finalise a revised opening date and will provide updates as soon as possible.

Despite the setback, the opening remains part of IKEA’s wider expansion across the UK and Scotland. The company has reiterated its intention to bring the new concept to Dundee in the near future, once the remaining requirements are in place.

A new launch date for the Dundee Plan and Order Point is expected to be announced in due course.
