Dundee’s legacy extends beyond Team Tayside

Dundee’s influence at Glasgow 2026 stretches beyond the athletes born in the region.
Two Team Scotland athletes competing at this summer’s Games - Rebecca Grieve and Lucy Fraser - are recipients of the Dundee-based Giving Back to Track initiative, founded by Commonwealth champion Eilish McColgan and fellow Olympian Michael Rimmer.
Rebecca Grieve will compete in the mixed 4x400m relay on Day 5 of the games (Tuesday 28 July) while Lucy Fraser will line up in the women’s 4x100m relay on Day 9 (Saturday 1 August).
Sarah Tait, a previous recipient of the Giving Back to Track initiative, will also make her debut in the games, competing in the 3,000m steeplechase taking place on Day 4 of the games (Monday 27 July)
Launched in 2022 through Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, Giving Back to Track provides financial support to promising young female middle and long-distance athletes across Scotland, helping remove many of the financial barriers associated with elite competition.
Rebecca Grieve is among the programme’s current recipients, while Sarah Tait previously received support as she progressed through the sport.
Their selections for Glasgow 2026 demonstrate the growing impact of a charity that began in Dundee and is already helping produce the next generation of Scottish international athletes.
It means Eilish’s legacy at these Games extends far beyond her own performances on the track. As she competes in Glasgow herself, two athletes supported by her Dundee-founded initiative will also proudly wear the Scotland vest on one of the biggest stages in sport.
From Olympic medallists and defending Commonwealth champions to home Games debutants, Team Tayside once again has plenty to celebrate.
While medals will undoubtedly be the ultimate goal for many, simply representing Scotland at a home Commonwealth Games is an achievement every athlete will cherish for years to come.
Over the next 11 days, Dundee Culture will once again be your home for Team Tayside, following every race, every match, every ride and every medal as our local athletes take on the Commonwealth. We’ll bring you the latest news, results, reaction and stories from Glasgow 2026 every step of the way.
Whether you’re supporting from the stands, watching from home or cheering on from Dundee, Angus and across Tayside, there will be plenty of local reasons to get behind Team Scotland over the coming days.
Good luck to every athlete flying the flag for Scotland at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
