Dundee’s newest adrenaline filled heritage experience is about to open its first wave of ticket sales, with the Discovery Mast Climb tickets launching tomorrow, Friday 28 November, at 8pm.
Launching next year, participants will climb 25 metres above the RRS Discovery’s deck, following in the footsteps of Scott, Shackleton and their crew who embarked on their Antarctic expedition 124 years ago.
The experience promises a heart racing ascent that captures the spirit of the vessel’s historic journey, encouraging visitors to imagine the icy Southern Ocean rolling beneath them as they climb.
The course has been created by Zone Events, the team known for large scale, high profile challenges such as the Kelpies Experience and the Forth Bridge Abseil.
For the Discovery Mast Climb, they have recreated the physical obstacles faced by the early explorers, from authentic style rigging to narrow deck pathways that mirror the demands of life at sea more than a century ago.
Those who take part will gain a rare perspective of the ship and the waterfront below, while also experiencing the intensity and bravery involved in navigating the real mast during the original voyage.
Dundee Heritage Trust hopes the event will offer both adventure and education, tying together Dundee’s maritime legacy with an unforgettable hands on challenge.
Ahead of ticket sales going live, Dundee Heritage Trust is encouraging anyone interested to sign up to their mailing list to increase their chances of securing a place.
Given the anticipated demand, organisers expect the first wave of tickets to sell out quickly once they are released at 8pm on Friday.
The Discovery Mast Climb is part of a wider programme of activities planned for 2026, marking the continuing relevance of RRS Discovery as a symbol of exploration, endurance and innovation. With its mix of history and modern adventure, the climb is set to become one of Dundee’s standout experiences next year.
Full details, including future ticket waves and participation requirements, will be shared in the months ahead. For now, eager climbers are being urged to act fast and sign up before tomorrow’s launch.
