A brand-new community dedicated to one of the world’s most recognisable dog breeds has launched in Dundee, bringing dachshund owners together to share stories, make friends and organise local meet-ups!

Dundee Dachshunds is a new community group created to connect owners of the much-loved sausage dogs across Dundee and the surrounding areas, including Angus and Fife.

The idea is simple: create a friendly space where dachshund owners can get to know each other, share photographs of their four-legged companions and hopefully build lasting friendships.

And although the community is still in its early stages, it’s already beginning to attract plenty of interest!

Since launching, Dundee Dachshunds has been introducing some of its four-legged members through photographs and stories shared by their owners.

Among the first dogs to feature are Monty, Dexter, Bella and Winston, each with their own personality and story to tell.

The page hopes to continue introducing more local dachshunds as the community grows, giving owners an opportunity to celebrate their pets while connecting with other people who share their love for the breed.

Speaking to Dundee Culture, the organisers behind the new community explained the inspiration for launching the page.

“The idea behind Dundee Dachshunds was to create a friendly local community where dachshund owners can get to know each other, share their dogs’ personalities and hopefully make friendships through walks and meet-ups.”

They added that the response so far has been encouraging, with new members joining every day and owners already sharing photographs and stories about their dogs.

Plans for first dachshund meet-up in Dundee

And the community has even bigger plans for the future!

Organisers are currently exploring the possibility of holding their first informal meet-up, giving local dachshunds and their owners the chance to get together in person.

One idea being considered is a relaxed walk around Baxter Park, followed by a visit to a dog-friendly café.

However, arrangements are still being explored, and no date or venue has been confirmed.

Further details will be shared through the Dundee Dachshunds page once plans have been finalised.

The hope is that regular walks and social gatherings could eventually become part of the community, helping owners make new connections while their dogs enjoy spending time together.

How to get involved

Dundee Dachshunds is welcoming owners from across Dundee, Angus and Fife, with the community continuing to grow as more people discover the page.

Owners are encouraged to share photographs and stories about their dogs, with the possibility of having their four-legged friends introduced to the wider community.

It’s a lovely new initiative that could bring together people from across the area through their shared love of dachshunds.
