Dundee athlete Eilish McColgan recorded the third quickest half marathon run of her career as she continues to fine tune preparations for the London Marathon in April.
The Dundonian clocked 1:07:08 at the Kagawa Marugame International Half Marathon in Japan, delivering another strong performance just weeks after her victory at the same event. The time ranks as her third fastest over the 13.1 mile distance.
It marks another positive step in her build up to London, where she will compete in the marathon for the second time. After the race, McColgan said that “things were going in the right direction” as her training continues to progress.
The 33-year-old has increasingly focused on road racing in recent seasons, adding half marathon and marathon ambitions to an already decorated track career. Performances like this suggest she is hitting form at the right time.
With April fast approaching, attention will now turn to how that pace translates over 26.2 miles in the capital. For Dundee, it is another reminder that one of its most celebrated athletes is firmly on track heading into one of the biggest races of the year.
