Dundee athletics star Eilish McColgan’s unforgettable 10,000m gold medal at Birmingham 2022 has been recognised as one of the greatest moments in Commonwealth Games history
The moment has been named alongside Usain Bolt’s relay gold in Glasgow and Flora Duffy’s historic triumph for Bermuda.
McColgan’s emotional victory has been shortlisted in Commonwealth Sport’s Greatest Commonwealth Games Moment fan vote, placing her achievement alongside Bolt anchoring Jamaica to 4x100m relay gold at Glasgow 2014 and Flora Duffy winning Bermuda’s first-ever women’s Commonwealth Games gold on the Gold Coast in 2018.
The Dundee athlete produced one of the defining moments of Birmingham 2022, storming to victory in the women’s 10,000m to claim gold while emulating her mother, Liz McColgan, who won the same event for Scotland at the 1986 Commonwealth Games.
The emotional success became one of the standout images of the Games, with Eilish and Liz celebrating together trackside after making Commonwealth Games history as the first Scottish mother and daughter to win the same event.
Now, the public has the chance to crown Eilish’s achievement as the greatest Commonwealth Games moment of all time.
Voting is open until 12pm on Friday, 17 July, with no registration required.
McColgan is currently sitting in second place and within touching distance of taking the lead.
