Eilish McColgan honoured with stunning Glasgow mural ahead of Commonwealth Games

Just days before the Commonwealth Games return to Glasgow, Dundee athletics icon Eilish McColgan has been honoured with a spectacular new mural celebrating one of the greatest moments in Scottish sporting history.
The striking artwork, unveiled along Glasgow’s Clydeside Expressway, captures the unforgettable moment McColgan crossed the finish line to win Commonwealth gold in the women’s 10,000 metres at Birmingham 2022.
It immortalises the race that saw the Dundee runner deliver one of the defining performances of her career, securing victory in front of a passionate home crowd and following in the footsteps of her mother, Liz McColgan, who also claimed Commonwealth gold over the same distance.
The mural’s unveiling marks another remarkable milestone in what has already been an unforgettable week for the Dundee athlete. Just 24 hours earlier, McColgan’s Birmingham triumph was officially voted the greatest Commonwealth Games moment of all time by fans, beating a shortlist of some of the most iconic performances in the event’s history, including achievements by Usain Bolt and Flora Duffy.
It means one of the city’s greatest sporting stars has received two major honours in as many days, further cementing her place among Scotland’s all-time sporting greats ahead of the Games returning to Glasgow this summer.
The mural forms part of the celebrations surrounding Glasgow 2026, with artwork appearing across the city to recognise athletes who have helped shape Commonwealth Games history.
As Glasgow prepares to welcome athletes from across the Commonwealth once again, few images could better represent Scotland’s recent sporting history than the moment Eilish McColgan powered down the home straight to claim Commonwealth gold.
