Eilish McColgan has achieved one of the finest performances of her career after recording the second fastest 15km time ever by a European athlete.

Competing at the Zevenheuvelenloop in Nijmegen on Sunday, McColgan clocked an impressive 47:12, setting a new British record in the process.

The race saw her take fourth place in a closely fought contest. Ethiopia’s Asmarech Anley won in 47:05, followed by Uganda’s Esther Chebet and Ethiopia’s Aynadis Mebratu, who both finished in 47:09. McColgan’s time places her ahead of Norwegian legend Ingrid Kristiansen in the European all-time rankings.

Only Lornah Kiplagat’s 46:59, set in Udine in 2007, stands ahead of McColgan’s achievement. Her result not only strengthens her position among Europe’s elite distance runners but also marks a major comeback moment as she continues her return to top form.

McColgan’s performance reflects the determination and resilience she has shown throughout her career. As she builds towards future competitions, her new British record reaffirms her status as one of the UK’s most exceptional long-distance athletes.

The race in Nijmegen has added another milestone to McColgan’s already remarkable list of achievements, and her latest result signals even more promise for the season ahead.
