Dundonians call on Loganair to relaunch flights to London City Airport

Calls are growing for flights between Dundee and London City Airport to be reinstated.
The calls come following the announcement that Loganair plans to withdraw from the Dundee to Heathrow service in September after reviewing the route.
Since the announcement, many Dundonians have taken to Dundee Culture's socials to share their views, with a clear theme emerging around a potential return to London City Airport.
The route previously connected Dundee with the capital’s financial district and was widely used by business travellers.
Several commenters highlighted the convenience of London City compared to Heathrow, particularly for shorter trips. One said: “I hope they move back to London City. It was much easier for commuters to get into London,” while another added: “Must better for business flights and short trips etc.”
Others echoed similar sentiments, pointing to past experiences of the service. “Flew to London City from Dundee a few years ago it was great,” one person wrote, while another commented: “I used the flight from London City to Dundee but Heathrow is not an airport I like to use.”
There were also suggestions that alternative London airports could provide a better fit for Dundee’s needs. One commenter said: “LCY or Gatwick - even Luton or Stansted has a direct connection,” while another added: “Hopefully another London airport will step in… Heathrow is too far out for meetings.”
Some responses also reflected frustration at the uncertainty surrounding the route’s future. “Odd they didn’t state the alternative London destination at the same time,” one user said, while another questioned whether changes to routes had discouraged passengers in the past.
Despite the disappointment over the Heathrow decision, there remains optimism among some that a replacement service could be introduced. One comment read: “Hopefully it returns back to London City Airport with no gap in services,” capturing a wider hope that Dundee’s direct link to London will continue in some form.
