Dundee takes centre stage in Blue’s new music video

Dundee has taken centre stage in a new music video from one of Britain’s best-known boybands - and there are plenty of familiar locations to spot.

Blue have released the official music video for You Should Know, with Duncan James, Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan and Antony Costa filmed across Dundee and Broughty Ferry.

Shot entirely in black and white, the video takes the band from the historic streets of Dundee city centre to the waterfront, beach and surroundings of Broughty Castle.

And if you know Dundee well, it doesn’t take long before you start recognising exactly where they are.

Blue take a walk through Dundee

One of the most distinctive sequences sees all four members of Blue walking along the cobbles of Chandlers Lane.

It’s a brilliant choice of location.

The historic stone buildings and cobbled street give this part of the video a character that feels completely different from the more open coastal scenes later on.

There is also something quite surreal about seeing one of Britain’s biggest boybands casually walking through a little corner of Dundee that thousands of us have probably passed countless times.

The black-and-white cinematography makes it look particularly striking, giving the familiar surroundings a much more cinematic and timeless feel.

Broughty Ferry gets its moment too

The video doesn’t stay in the city centre for long.

Blue also head east to Broughty Ferry, where the coastline and surroundings of Broughty Castle provide another major backdrop.

It’s here that the scale of the landscape really starts to come through.

The open waterfront provides a great contrast with the tighter historic streets seen elsewhere in the video, while Broughty Castle is instantly recognisable in the background.

For Dundonians watching, part of the fun is simply trying to identify each location as it appears.

A different side of Dundee

Perhaps one of the nicest things about the video is the Dundee it chooses to show.

When the city appears on television or in national campaigns, attention naturally tends to fall on places such as V&A Dundee, the waterfront and the city’s biggest landmarks.

But You Should Know demonstrates that you don’t necessarily need Dundee’s most obvious attractions to make the city look good on camera.

A cobbled lane, rows of historic buildings, the beach and a centuries-old castle are more than enough.

And bringing those locations together gives the video several completely different looks without ever travelling particularly far.

It’s a reminder of just how varied Dundee can be as a filming location.

The video was directed by Wayne Lennox, and Dundee Culture has also been speaking directly with Wayne about the story behind bringing Blue to the city.

I’ll have much more from him on how the locations were chosen, what it was like filming around Dundee and his thoughts on returning to the city.

But even without knowing the story behind every shot, the finished result speaks for itself.

Dundee looks fantastic.

It’s atmospheric, distinctive and, through the black-and-white treatment, occasionally almost unrecognisable from the city we see every day.

And seeing Blue walking down Chandlers Lane certainly wasn’t something I had on my Dundee Culture bingo card for 2026.
