Dundee’s West End has been named the coolest neighbourhood in Scotland in a new feature by The Sunday Times, adding another major accolade to the city’s growing list of 2026 achievements.
The newspaper points to the transformation of Perth Road as a key reason for the recognition, highlighting the rise of independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that have helped reshape the area over the past decade.
What was once a quieter stretch has become one of Dundee’s most vibrant and creative streets.
According to the feature, one of the early signs of change came with the arrival of Fraser’s Fruit and Veg on Perth Road.
Since then, a steady flow of new openings has followed, attracting an arts-focused crowd and giving the West End a distinct character that sets it apart.
The article also highlights a mix of independent retailers and creative spaces, from homeware shops and record stores to charity shops known for vintage finds.
Together, they have helped create a neighbourhood that feels local, lived-in and full of personality.
Creative and wellbeing spaces also get a mention, including yoga sessions at Heart Space on Scott Street, run by Finlay Wilson, better known online as Kilted Yogis. The classes take place in a converted church and have become a popular part of the area’s weekly rhythm.
A major highlight, however, is WestFest on Magdalen Green, which The Sunday Times describes as the standout event in the local creative calendar. The free community music festival has become a summer staple and a strong example of the West End’s cultural pull.
The feature also notes the Abandon Ship as one of Dundee’s newest favourite watering holes, adding a pop culture nod by mentioning that Justin Bieber filmed a music video there.
Altogether, the recognition underlines how the West End has become one of Scotland’s most talked-about neighbourhoods, and another moment for Dundee to celebrate.
