Dundee’s role as a UNESCO City of Design has brought in more than £1 million to the city over the past two years.
The figure comes from a new report highlighting the global and local impact of Dundee’s UNESCO status, which celebrates the city’s creativity and innovation.
The latest four-yearly review from UNESCO rated Dundee’s performance as “Excellent”, ranking it among the top cities in the world alongside Bandung in Indonesia and Kaunas in Lithuania.
UNESCO praised Dundee for using its design and creative industries to drive regeneration, bring communities together, and support economic growth.
Between 2022 and 2024, the Dundee UNESCO team helped secure over £1 million in income for the city, with projections showing around £250,000 a year expected through the upcoming 2026–2029 action plan.
Funding for the Dundee UNESCO team next year will come from Abertay University, Dundee City Council, and the Northwood Charitable Trust, ensuring continued progress for the city’s design and innovation ambitions.
