Dundee’s festive season will officially begin on 16 November when the city’s Christmas tree light switch-on returns to City Square for the first time in five years.

The annual event will take place on Sunday 16 November, with crowds expected to gather in the heart of the city to see the traditional tree illuminated.

Organisers have promised further details on timings and activities will be revealed in the coming weeks.

For many Dundonians, the move marks a welcome return. In recent years, the main Christmas tree had been placed outside the Old Steeple near the Overgate, which caused a lot of criticism, but this year it will once again stand tall in City Square, bringing the celebrations back to the civic heart of Dundee.

The switch-on is one of the highlights of the city’s festive calendar, drawing families and visitors to enjoy the spectacle and soak up the atmosphere.

With the tree lighting up against the backdrop of the Caird Hall, the event is set to rekindle memories of Dundee’s traditional Christmas celebrations.

Organisers have encouraged people to wrap up warm and join in the celebration, which they say will be a special moment for the city as the lights sparkle once again in City Square.

The return of the tree to the square adds an extra touch of tradition to this year’s festivities, with many looking forward to seeing Dundee’s Christmas centrepiece back in its original home.
