Dundee is set to welcome hundreds of leading marine scientists and researchers from across the world in 2026 as the city hosts the European Cetacean Society Conference at LIVEHOUSE Dundee.
The conference will take place from 20 to 24 April 2026 and will bring together experts in whale, dolphin and porpoise research to share the latest scientific findings, conservation strategies and policy discussions. It is one of the most significant annual gatherings in the global marine science calendar.
Organisers chose Dundee due to its strong links to marine and environmental research, as well as its location on the Tay Estuary, an area internationally recognised for its population of bottlenose dolphins. The event is expected to shine a spotlight on Scotland’s role in marine conservation and climate research.
LIVEHOUSE Dundee will host keynote talks, research presentations and panel discussions across several days, with additional events and networking sessions expected to take place across the city.
The conference will also attract early-career researchers and students, strengthening Dundee’s reputation as a centre for learning and innovation.
Beyond its scientific importance, the conference is expected to bring a significant boost to the local economy, with hotels, restaurants and city attractions benefiting from an influx of international visitors during the spring of 2026.
